Nursing Job Interview Tips and Strategies

Great news! You found the perfect opportunity on our job board, you applied, and you got invited for an interview! Now, it’s time to impress your interviewer. Interview anxiety is not only experienced by the fresh graduates, but this is also felt by the veterans applying for a job who have been out of touch from the job interview process for some time. Here are some tips and strategies to ace that interview and secure your dream job.

Preparation is key!

Study, study, study! Study as if you are preparing for a very important exam. Do some research on the company’s history, goals, and vision. Next, go over some questions they may ask you and think of how you are going to answer them. Indeed and Glassdoor are excellent interview resources. Most interviewees anonymously post interview questions that they were asked and provide overall insight on the interview process.

Suit up for success

Your overall appearance and body language should create a powerful first impression in the minds of the interviewer, earning you some extra brownie points. Save the scrubs for your first day on the job. Normally, a sharp business suit or conservative clothes are best suited for interview candidates.

Ask Questions

Remember, you’re not the only one being interviewed. You should also be interviewing the company. After all, you want to be certain that this company will be the right fit for you. Some questions you can ask are:

  1. What is the company culture like?
  2. What do you like best about working for this company?
  3. What is a typical career path for someone in this role?
  4. What are the next steps?

Thank You Note

Remember to always thank your interviewer in person. However, it is also a good idea to send your interviewer a thank you note afterward to make a lasting impression (bonus points if it is a handwritten note).

Remember, after you pass the interview, it is either you are hired, or you are not. So, come prepared and stay confident!
